All entries will first be screened to ensure they meet the entry criteria, theme, and content requirements outlined in the Entry Video Checklist and Contest Rules.

Our 3 panels panel of judges will score your video based the criteria described below — including creativity, content, fit with our theme & mission and more.

(2) Semi-Finals Round judges who choose Finalists and recommend Special Awards Nominees
(3) Finals Round judges who choose Winners & Special Awards Winners

DETERMINING  FINALISTS

SEMI-FINALISTS’ JUDGING & PUBLIC VOTE CHALLENGE

All semi-finalists will be judged by our Semi-Finals Round judges.  The top 3+ finalists per division will be selected based on the highest Semi-Finals Roundjudges’ scores, per the criteria below.  Additional teams may be selected as “Special Award Nominees” and be asked to participate in the Awards Screening & Reception; some of their videos may be screened in whole or in part.

Another way Semi-Finalists can make it is through our ONLINE Public Vote Challenge, where all Semi-Finalists and their videos participate in, often drawing viewership around the world   The public will determine the Audience’s Choice Award winner and the top vote-getter per division gets, who will receive an automatic slot into their division’s Finals.

Additionally,  3+ finalists per division will be chosen based on judges’ scores for all the Semi-Finalists; the public vote is simply one other way to get into the Finals.

DETERMINING  WINNERS:

The Finalists and Special Awards nominees will be participate in our Gala Awards festivites on March 19, 2016, which includes premier Sccreening & Awards at CAAMFest, followed by our Awards reception and additional awards.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Your entry will be scored according to the following criteria:

 

1.  Meets Contest Criteria/Theme – (20% of score)

  • Clearly addresses why China is important to their future
  • Is the President or future President addressed?  And Is he/she urged to build a more positive relationship with China?
  • If the video is in the cultural exchange proposal category, is a specific cultural exchange idea proposed?
  • Is there a third party interview?
  • Is there personal voice or personal perspective?
2. Content Quality & Youth Inspiration – (20% of score)

  • Is it a well-told story or exploration of a topic that shows creativity, originality, coherence, and one’s personal perspective/opinion?
  • Does it include research on the topic with balanced perspectives on the U.S. and China?
  • Is it a compelling clip for American Youth that inspires other youth to learn more about China
  • Does it have potential to drive meaningful change/response/dialogue among Youth?
  • Is the video inclusive of individuals from all demographic backgrounds & abilities?
3.  Cultural Exchange Idea * (if an entrant in the CEI category) (20% of score)

  • Well-told story that shows creativity, originality, and coherence
  • Is it realistically feasible?
  • Does it have the potential to make an impact?
  • Can it inspire the White House’s support?
  • Is there personal conviction or conveys why this is personally important to the contestant(s)?
4.  Video Quality & Production Values (20% of score)

  • Does it demonstrate visual creativity and/or artistic value?
  • Does the video have strong production values —  quality audio/sound, quality lighting, camera stability,
  • Does it demonstrate high quality editing,  use of multiple locations and high  quality of scripting
5.  Overall Quality   (20% of score)

  • Did the video personally move you or inspire you?
  • Was this video enjoyable and entertaining?
  • Replay Value:  Is this a video you’d replay over and over
  • Does it have the potential to spark dialogue, viral sharing and inspire other youth?
